this behavior on organizational performance. We have to maintain the value of interaction between Marketing and Human Resources which thereby leads to the importance of marketing in HR

4.2 Distinguish between tactical, strategic and operational decisions:

Yourarticlelibrary.com (2013) indicated that, the decision that a manager has to take may range from setting of goals for the entire business to day-to-day decisions. Some may have only short- term while others may have long-term implications on the enterprise. From these points of view, managerial decisions can be broadly classified into three categories: strategic, tactical and operational decisions.

1. Strategic decisions:

Strategic decisions are major long term choices of actions, influence a major part of the business and contribute directly to the achievement of common goals of the company.

Generally, strategic decision is unstructured and thus, a manager has to apply his business judgment, evaluation and intuition into the definition of the problem. These decisions are based on partial knowledge of the environmental factors which are uncertain and dynamic and are taken at the higher level of management. For instance, the top manager from marketing department may decide to expand into new markets. If the headquarters are based in Durban, operations can be expanded to Cape Town and Pretoria as well.

2. Tactical decisions:

These decisions relate to the implementation of strategic decisions. They are directed towards developing divisional plans, structuring workflows, establishing distribution channels, acquisition of resources such as men, materials and money. These decisions are taken at the middle level of management. Relating to the previous example, the divisions in Cape Town and Pretoria will develop plans to better serve customers in these areas and help the company achieve their strategic plan which is, to gain new customers.

3. Operational decisions:

These decisions relate to day-to-day operations of the enterprise. They have a short-term horizon as they are taken repetitively. These decisions are based on facts regarding the events and do not require much of business judgment. Operational decisions are taken at lower levels of management. As the information is needed for helping the manager to take rational, well informed decisions, information systems need to focus on the process of managerial decision making.

Question 5

5.1 Identify and discuss two types of value activities:

In mindtools.com specified that Porter's Value Chain focuses on systems, and how inputs are changed into the outputs purchased by consumers. Using this viewpoint, Porter described a chain of activities common to all businesses, and he divided them into primary and support activities.

Primary Activities

Primary activities relate directly to the physical creation of the product up to its delivery. These functions are:

Inbound logistics – Relates to the process of receiving, storing, and distributing inputs internally.  Operations – Involves the transformation of inputs into outputs that are sold to customers.  Outbound logistics – activities involved in delivering your product or service to customers. These are things like collection, storage, and distribution systems.  Marketing and sales – These are processes used to persuade clients to purchase your products. The benefits offered and how well you communicate them are sources of value.  Service – activities related to maintaining the value of your product or service to your customers after purchase.

According to the above diagram, Maslow suggests that people’s needs are satisfied from the bottom to the top of the hierarchy. For instance, people at work will first be concerned to at least get a minimum salary to buy daily expenses such as milk, sugar, bread etc, which we consider as the most basic needs or physiological needs. In addition, Maslow considers these needs as the most basic for survival and higher needs cannot be satisfied without it. After satisfying the physiological needs, an employee will feel a need for security. Maslow argues that the need for security involves having a safe home or a steady job. During recession times, employees may feel that they can lose their jobs and for this reason their motivation levels may decrease and will affect productivity. If the company ensures that jobs will be held, their motivation will increase and their efficiency as well. Furthermore, once the employee feels safe at work, he will have the need to socialize such as having colleagues, friends, and supportive family and be accepted by them. Maslow calls these needs as social needs. The ability of an individual to belong in a group and feel cherished is the third need of any individual according to Maslow.

Subsequently, esteem needs are defined as the recognition and acknowledgment from others, as well as self-respect and a sense of status or importance. Maslow specifies that any human wants to be recognized for what he does. For example, a manager wants employees to respect his position by accepting what he asks from them at the same time employees want to be acknowledging when they help the company increase its turnover or its share price. These will make them more motivated to contribute towards the development of the organization. Lastly, Maslow mentioned that at the top of the pyramid is a self-actualization need which he emphasizes to be the most important level for an individual. It involves developing to one’s fullest potential. An example may be when an employee becomes the Chief executive officer of the company. This need may vary from one person to another.

Question 6

6 .1 Macro environment: Erasmus, Strydom and Rudansky-Kloppers (2013:108) defined that; macro environment is the sub-environment that is external to both the organization and the market environment.

6.2 The components of the market environment: Erasmus et al. (2013: 106-108) the marketing is encountered immediately outside the business organizational. In this environment, all the variables become relevant for every organization. The components of the market environment are:

Consumers: with particular buying power and behavior, who buy the products and services of the business.  Competitors: Including new and potential competitors, who want to maintain or improve their position in the marketplace.  Intermediaries: who compete against each other to handle the business’s product to get it to the consumer.  Suppliers: Who supply, or do not wish to supply, raw materials, products and services and finance to the business organization to enable it to manufacture the products and services that the consumer requires.

6.3 Identify and discuss the challenges of HR according to Ulrich (1998):

Wjsspapers.com (2014:72) states that the competitive forces that managers face today and will continue to confront in the future demand organizational excellence that must be the work of HR. The focus in the business world has shifted from physical to knowledge and information. “Companies today face five critical business challenges. These challenges require organizations to build new capabilities. It is HR's opportunity to play a leadership role in enabling organizations to meet these competitive challenges such as globalization, profitability through growth, technology, intellectual capital and changes” (Ulrich, 1998). The challenge remains robust to adapt people with those them.

Smallbusiness.com is specified that:

Globalization: is a term in business that refers to the integration of an organization's operations, processes and strategies into diverse cultures, products, services and ideas. Because of its emphasis on diversity, globalization also has a deep impact on the way companies manage their employees. Globalization has reduced barriers between countries, thereby resulting in intensification of economic competition among nations, dissemination of advanced management
