A plan describes what workers in a company must do to avoid or prevent injuries and illnesses at workplace.

A Safety and Health System at

  • If you have a small business in a low-risk industry, you may simply listen to your employees’s concerns and responding to them.
  • If you have a large business in a hazardous industry, you may have notebooks with written policies and procedures and definetely a full-time safety director.

1 .- Make a commitment 2 .- Involve employees 3 .- Identify and control hazards 4 .- Comply with regulations 5 .- Train Employees 6 .- Support a culture of safety 7 .- Continually improve your system

1.- Make a commitment

Do your best into your commitment to safety and health at workplace.

  • Write a policy that emphasizes the importance you place on workplace safety and health.
  • Begin meetings with a safety topic.
  • Tell employees they will be expected to follow safe work practises.
  • Answer all reports of unhealthy conditions at workplace.
  • Find out why injuries or illnesses occur.

3.- Identify and Control Hazards

Follow the next steps to identify and understand safety and health hazards:

  • Review records of accidents, injuries, etc.
  • Review OSHA logs, first aid logs, workers’s compensation reports, complaints and close calls.
  • Look for trends or popular factors in kinds of injuries, location, equipment, etc.
  • Survey employees.
  • Review inspection reports.
  • Learn the OSHA regulations related to your workplace.
  • Inspect your workplace for safety and health problems.

How to Control Hazards…

Once you identify hazards, you have to decide how to control them.

  • Prioritize the hazards you found.
  • Make a plan for correcting the hazards.
  • Correct the hazards
  • Evaluate the changes to make sure the problem has been corrected and there is no another hazard.

5.- Train Employees

Train employees about hazards they may be exposed at workplace and guide them on how to protect themselves. Provide employees about :

  • General safety orientation.
  • Specific training on the hazards of their jobs and how to performance their jobs in a safe way.
  • Retraining.

6.- Support a culture of Safety

Employees consider safety as a value. They care about themselves and respect each other.

  • Set effective two-way communication.
  • Make sure management goes beyond the regulations.
  • Support a work environment that promotes creativity, well-being and trust.
  • Celebrate success.
