The Call of the Wild
The Call of the Wild", written by Jack London in 1903. The work tells the story of Buck, a domestic St. Bernard dog
who is stolen from his home in California and sold as a sled dog in the Canadian Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush
of the 1890s.
In The Call of the Wild, the main characters are dogs and humans. Although dogs do not speak, they have human emotions
such as fear, hate and love.
Buck is the main character. At the beginning he is a domestic and pampered dog, but over time he adapts to the wild
life as a sled dog.
Spitz is his main rival, a cruel and dominant dog.
Other dogs in the team such as Curly, Dave, Joe, Billee, Pike, So-leks and Dub have different personalities, some
obedient, others rebellious.
Notable among the humans are:
Perrault and François, their first owners in the north, work for the Canadian government.
Charles and Hal, inexperienced men who mistreat the dogs.
Finally, John Thornton, who saves and lovingly cares for Buck. He is the only human Buck truly loves.
Today I want to tell you the amazing story of Buck, a big and strong dog.
At first, Buck lived in a big house in California. He had a happy life with a nice family. He ran in the garden, played, and felt free.
But one day, a man who worked at the house sold Buck to strangers. Buck didn’t understand. He was taken far away, on a train,
to a cold and wild land in Canada.
This was during the Gold Rush, when many people looked for gold. In the north, they needed dogs to pull sleds in the snow.
That was Buck’s new job.
Buck saw snow for the first time. He met new dogs and people. Life was very hard. A man hit him with a club. Buck learned
that the man with the club is the boss. It was a hard and painful lesson.
He became part of a sled team with other dogs. He had to learn fast: how to sleep in the snow, how to steal food to survive, and
how to be strong. The leader of the team was Spitz, but Buck didn’t like him. They fought, and Buck won. He became the new
leader.
Buck was a great leader. He helped the team work better. But later, he was sold again this time to bad people. They didn’t
know how to take care of dogs. The dogs were tired, hungry, and weak.
One day, Buck met a Good man named John Thornton. He saved Buck’s life and gave him love and care. Buck loved Thornton
very much. He stayed loyal to him, always protecting him.
The novel culminates with the death of John Thornton and Buck's final release into the wild. Buck leads a pack of
wolves and eventually melts into the forest, leaving behind his former life as a domestic dog.
In conclusion, The Call of the Wild is a novel that presents many lessons about human nature and life in general. It
teaches us that instincts can help us overcome challenges, that we must always be prepared to face new challenges,
and that we all have a wild side that can be awakened when presented with the right experience.
