Medications: You may be instructed to stop taking certain medications before the test.

Before the test

After the test

Avoid heavy activities: You may be advised not to lift heavy objects or perform strenuous physical activity for a short time after the test.

Pressure on the puncture site: You will be asked to apply pressure to the site where the blood sample was taken to stop any bleeding or prevent bruising.

Ice or cold packs: To reduce swelling or pain, ice or a cold pack can be applied to the puncture site.

Diet: Eat something after the test to avoid fainting.

Hydration: Be sure to drink enough water after the test.

Follow instructions: Follow any specific instructions provided by the laboratory staff.

Blood sampling is used to

assess overall health, diagnose

diseases, evaluate organ

function, and monitor the

effectiveness of treatments.

The number and types of blood

cells, chemicals, proteins, and

other blood components are

measured.

All samples for diagnosis,
confirmation, or research will be
considered potentially infectious, so
preventive measures related to
exposure to biological agents must
always be followed, as well as the
recommendations of the World
Health Organization's Laboratory
Biosafety Manual (Geneva, 2005).
A biologically adequate sample is
defined as the representative sample
of the site of the lesion, in sufficient
quantity placed in a clean container,
properly identified, preserved, and
transported.

Fainting : In some cases, can trigger a vasovagal reaction and cause fainting. Allergic Reaction: An allergic reaction is occurred from the use of antiseptic solutions. Infection: There is a very small risk of infection at the puncture site. Nerve Problema Blood collection can damage a nerve, causing pain or numbness. Large bruise or excessive bleeding: Although less common, these cases may require medical attention.

PREVIOUS STEPS

Dizziness or Lightheadedness: This can occur due to blood loss and decreased blood flow. Pain or Bruising at the Puncture Site: This usually go away within a few days. Bleeding: Some minor bleeding at the puncture site may occur, but it usually stops quickly

More Serious Complications:

Blood extraction is realized common way
and safe practice that can help diagnose or
monitor many diseases.

UNIVERSAL

PRECAUTIONS

1. Gather the necessary material: syringe, hypodermic needle or
vacuum tube.

Common side effects:

SIDE EFFECTS

2. Proceed to wash your hands,
drying them with sanitizers.
3. Identify and prepare the
patient.
4. The site is chosen, preferably
in the antecubital region and
palpate to identify.
5. Tourniquet is applied 4-5 fingers
above the chosen site.
6. The patient is asked to clench
their fist so that the veins dilate.
7. Put on a pair of suitable non-
sterile gloves.
8. The area is disinfected with
isopropyl alcohol or 70% ethanol
for 30 seconds and let it dry.
9. The vein is held by supporting
the patient's arm with your thumb
under the venous puncture.
10. The needle is inserted into the
vein at an angle of 30°.
11. Once the blood has been drawn,
loosen the tourniquet before
removing the needle.
12. The needle is removed and
offer a clean gauze or dry cotton
ball to apply to the area.
13. The syringe is disposed and the
used needle inside the sharps
container.
14. Mark the label and record the
information in the formats.
15. Objects are discarded that may
leak blood or body fluids in the
container for infectious materials.
16. Remove your gloves and place them in the general waste container.
Proceed to wash your hands.
