FREUD’S PSYCHOSEXUAL STAGE
1. ORAL STAGE
Birth to 1 yr old
Erogenous zone: mouth
The child’s primary source of interaction
is the mouth.
Mouth is vital for eating, and pleasure
from oral simulation (tasting and
Sucking)
2. ANAL STAGE
1yr old to 3yr old
Erogenous zone: Bowel and Bladder
Control
Primary focus of the libido was on
controlling the bladder and bowel
movements
Major conflict: toilet training – learning to
control their bodily needs
Leads to sense of accomplishment and
independence
3. PHALLIC STAGE
3yr old to 6yr old
Erogenous zone: Genitals
Primary focus of the libido is on the
genitals
Children begin to discover the
differences between males and females
Young boys view their fathers as rival to
their mother’s affection
Child also fears to be punished: leading
to frustration or anxiety
4. LATENT STAGE
6yr old to puberty
Erogenous Zone: Sexual Age Inactive
Superego continues to develop while the
id’s energies are suppressed.
Children social skills, values, and
relationship with peers and adults outside
5. GENITAL STAGE
Puberty to death
Erogenous Zone: Maturing Sexual
Interest
Puberty causes the libido to become

Fallopian Tubes transport eggs from
the ovaries to the uterus
Uterus – a hollow, muscular organ where
a fertilized egg implants and develops
Vagina mascular canal that connects
the external genitalia to the uterus

Greek word ero means love and genous
means produce
Any area that can produce reaction
through touch or sensation

DIVERSITY OF HUMAN SEXUALITY

GENDER INDETITY

 Person’s internal sense of self  One’s identity being expressed by them GENDER EXPRESSION  How you do demonstrate your gender: name, look, and pronouns, and behavior BIOLOGICAL SEX  Typically assigned at birth: based on physical characteristics.
