Tourism law refers to a collection of national, state, and international laws that govern many
facets and operations of the travel industry. The purpose of travel legislation is to provide a
regulatory framework for the proper development and management of tourism activities, which
includes the conservation of natural resources and the preservation of cultural traditions. The
legislation enables the state's tourism industry to assess itself, authorizing the establishment of
a nonprofit, public benefit corporation. The primary goal of tourism law is to offer an unbiased
and equal atmosphere for travelers and travel organizations. The laws are often used in the
tourism sector to control, authorize, encourage, empower, or outlaw the commercial and
recreational activities of both visitors and service providers. Additionally, there are laws
recognizing the rights of tourists as well as contract laws governing the relationships across
industry sectors. The areas covered by tourism law are diverse and include visitor safety, health
and hygiene, and privacy protection, in addition to numerous environmental laws and
regulations that have developed over time.
