ABSTRACT
Patah tulang plant (Euphorbia tirucalli) are also called pencil plants, which
come from the euphorbiaceae family. E. tirucalli traditionally in Indonesia believed
have the advantage of being a constituent in pharmacology. The latex of E. tirucalli is
used as a traditional treatment which this plant is useful for treat gastrointestinal
epilepsy, asthma, impotency, injury, toothache, rheumatism, hemorrhoids, tumors and
cancer. E. tirucalli has antimicrobial activity which the latex is contain alkaloids,
tannins, steroids, flavonoids, triterpenoides, saponins and hydroquinone. Previous
studies have shown that E. tirucalli is effective in inhibiting microbial. As research
has been done by (Setyorini MS, et al. 2014) explained the E. tirucalli extract can
inhibit the growth of P. acnes in concentrations of 10% and C. albicans in
concentration of 6%. However, there has been no studies explaining the MIC and
MBC in S. Aureus. This is the reason of our study which is to test E. Tirucalli
effectiveness to kill or inhibit S. Aureus growth. The MIC measurement will be
carried out by Kirby Bauer method on a blank disc dipped in Euphorbia tirucalli
latex, while the MBC measurement uses a liquid dilution and solid dilution method.
Extract will be made at the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Laboratory of the
Lambung Mangkurat University at the MIPA Faculty in Banjarbaru so that the extract
of E. tirucalli latex will be studied to become a mouthwash ingredients product that
can improve oral health as anti microbial.

ABSTRAK Tanaman patah tulang (Euphorbia tirucalli) disebut juga tanaman pensil, yang berasal dari family euphorbiaceae. E. tirucalli Secara tradisional dipercaya memiliki keuntungan sebagai konstituen dalam farmakologi. Getah dalam E. tirucalli digunakan sebagai pengobatan secara adat istiadat yang mana tanaman ini berguna

untuk pengobatan gastrointestinal epilepsi, asma, impotensi, luka, sakit gigi, rematik, hemoroid, tumor dan kanker. E. tirucall memiliki aktivitas antimikrobial yang mengandung alkaloida, tanin, steroida, flavonoida, triterpenoida, saponin, dan hidroquinon. Penelitian sebelumnya menunjukan bahwa E. tirucalli efektif menghambat mikrobial. Sebagaimana penelitian yang telah dilakukan. (Setyorini MS, dkk. 2014) bahwa E. tirucalli dapat menghambat pertumbuhan P. acnes dalam konsentarasi 10% dan C. albicans 6%. Namun, belum ada penelitian yang menjelaskan mengenai KHM dan KBM pada S. Aureus. Hal ini lah yang menjadi tujuan penelitian kami yakni menguji KHM dan KBM E.tirucalli pada S. Aureus. Pengukuran KHM akan dilakukan dengan metode Kirby Bauer pada blank disc yang dicelup pada getah Euphorbia tirucalli, sedangkan pengukuran KBM menggunakan

metode dilusi cair dan dilusi padat. Pembuatan ekstrak ini akan dilaksanakan di Laboratorium MIPA Universitas Lambung Mangkurat Fakultas MIPA di Banjarbaru sehingga didapat ekstrak getah E. tirucalli yang akan kami teliti sehingga dapat menjadi suatu produk obat kumur yang dapat meningkatkan kesehatan mulut sebagai anti mikroba.
