Technology has made communication easier and faster because you can now connect
with others no matter where you are, as long as you have internet access. While technology has
greatly impacted communication, it also has its disadvantages. As Turkle mentioned in the video,
technology can lead to isolation, and people may turn to it to fill the void of loneliness.
I have experienced this myself in the past, and it was not a great experience. I became very shy
and timid due to my lack of real-life interactions, which prevented me from enhancing my oral
communication skills. During the pandemic, when we were not allowed to go outside,
technology was my only companion. I met many people online, thanks to technology, but despite
that, I still felt lonely. I was never sure if they genuinely enjoyed talking to me or spending time
with me since I couldn’t observe their expressions or behavior in real life.
After watching Turkle’s talk, I don’t think I need to change the way I use technology in my daily
life because I have already made improvements since the pandemic. I have met many people in
real life who have become my friends, and we now spend more time together in person rather
than online.
