SERVING OTHERS: A SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, Exercises of Socialization and the Life Course

This lesson discussed one of Filipino personalities’ flaws: the “kanya-kanya mentality”. Most Filipinos are familiar with this approach, and it ignores the fact that we are social individuals who should eager to love and serve others, even if they do not belong to our own group. Furthermore, Dr. Jose Rizal is depicted in this lesson as a role model who has an unwavering passion and commitment to serve the country and the people.

LESSON 4: SERVING OTHERS: A SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY)
This lesson discussed one of Filipino personalities flaws: the kanya-kanya mentality. Most
Filipinos are familiar with this approach, and it ignores the fact that we are social individuals who
should eager to love and serve others, even if they do not belong to our own group. Furthermore, Dr.
Jose Rizal is depicted in this lesson as a role model who has an unwavering passion and commitment
to serve the country and the people.
Reflection
This lesson taught me that kanya-kanya mentality is not unusual to us, as its actually one
of the common bad habits of many Filipinos. I admit that I have this mentality at times, but I am now
working to overcome it because it is not beneficial to our country. We Filipinos should not let this
term called to us. Thus, we should be proactive than reactive. Rather than having endless arguments
with some people, lets discuss solutions.
This lesson also taught me that, like Dr. Jose Rizal, I should likewise serve our community in
little ways, such as cooperating and engaging in young activities that are aimed at the communitys
development and improvement. Furthermore, merely emphasizing and prioritizing my education is
one method of demonstrating my commitment to the country. Lastly, as we go on in our lives, I or we,
the youth, must be the one who will stand for the society, as what Dr. Jose Rizal stated.
