I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:  Recognize the importance and functions of straight through cable.  Enumerate the procedure in creating straight through cable.  Perform the procedure in creating straight through cable.  Work safely and properly. II. Subject matter: Topic: Computer Networking (Creating Straight-through cable) Tools/materials/equipment :  Crimping tool  LAN tester  Wire stripper  UTP cable  RJ  Laptop  Projector References: Competency-Based Module (CSS) pp. 93-98 (TVE Module) Competency-Based Module in Computer Hardware Servicing pp. 104- III. Procedure: Teacher’s activity Students Activity A. Preparation a. Preliminaries i. Prayer ii. Greetings Good Morning class. iii. Checking of attendance b. Review Let us first recall our previous lesson, last meeting we’ve discussed what cross over cable is. Does anyone of you can give the function of cross over cable? Very good! Can you give some examples of devices that uses cross over cables? Very Good! Another? Okay very good! Can you enumerate all the tools and materials needed in creating cross over cable? Very good! (one student will lead the prayer) Good morning Ma’am. (Leader per group will check the attendance) Ma’am cross over cables is a type of ethernet cable used to connect two like devices together. We use cross over cable when connecting a pc to another pc. Ma’am When connecting a switch to another switch. Ma’am we used RJ45, crimping tool, wire stripper, LAN tester and UTP cable.

Generalization Always take into considerations that before using the cable in connecting actual devices. It is suggested that you must use a LAN tester first to check the functionality of the cable. (student per group will read) (provided with the necessary tools and materials. Students will perform actual procedure in creating Straight through cable.)

  1. Strip off suitable length of the cable sheath.
  2. Sort wires by insulation colors.
  3. Align the colored wires according to the specific order.
  4. Trim all the wires to the same length.
  5. Insert the wires into RJ45 plug.
  6. Maintain wire order, left to right, with RJ45 tab facing downward.
  7. Crimp the RJ45 plug with the crimping tool.
  8. Verify the order of the wires is correct making good contact with the metal contacts in the RJ45 plug.
  9. Repeat all the steps in creating the other end of the cable. IV. Evaluation Students performances will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics. (the teacher will explain how the performances will be assessed through scoring rubrics.) CRITERIA PERCENTAGE RATING Safety procedures 15% Adherence to the procedures 30% Workmanship 15% Quality of product 40% TOTAL: 100% V. Assignment:
