Fulfilling PBBM’s promise: DepEd to deliver 64,816 laptops, smart TVs to schools nationwide
PASIG CITY, 14 February 2025 – The Department of Education (DepEd) will soon begin
distributing 64,816 laptops and smart TV packages worth P1.913 billion to schools across 16
regions by the second half of the year. The success of Early Procurement Activities (EPA) is a
commitment made by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his State of the Nation Address
(SONA) to bridge the digital divide. A key component of this is the DepEd Computerization
Program (DCP).
REFLECTION
The DepEd move to give away 64,816 laptops and smart TVs to schools nationwide is a strong step
towards narrowing the digital gap and improving the quality of education. This action follows through on
the commitment expressed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in his State of the Nation Address (SONA)
and reflects the intent to make good on this commitment through the DepEd Computerization Program
(DCP).
If I'm going to make this relate to the Code of Ethics, then this development would be an
opportunity and a duty. The Professional Teachers' Code of Ethics promotes the responsibility of
providing equal opportunities for learning and the commitment towards professional development and
lifelong learning. With the arrival of new technology, teachers need to be proactive in incorporating
these technologies into their teaching methods so that they complement the learning process and make
education more accessible to everyone.
In conclusion, the DepEd's initiative to distribute laptops and smart TVs is a positive step towards
improving educational equity and quality. As future teachers, it is our duty to embrace these changes,
continually enhance our skills, and uphold the ethical standards that guide our profession. By doing so,
we can ensure that technology serves as a powerful tool in our mission to educate and inspire the next
generation.
