1. Go to your MindTap Learning Path and watch the video shown in Chapter 4 Helper Studio: My
First Interview. (Note: We are using just the video portion of this assignment for this Discussion
activity. You do NOT have to complete the assignment in MindTap, answer the questions
presented there, or create your own video.)
2. Refer to the section regarding Mental Status Exams found on pages 68-72 of your textbook and
with that information you can develop a ‘Mental Status Report’ for Michelle based on what you
saw in the video.
3. Create a thread and submit a Mental Status Report for 'Michelle' that includes a brief description
of her mental status in the four areas covered in the text (Appearance & Behavior, Emotional
State, Thought Components, Cognition). Table 4.1 might be particularly helpful, study it
carefully! At the bottom of page 71 you’ll see an example of a Mental Status Exam report for
“Eduardo Unclear”. Notice it’s only two paragraphs long – your report should have similar content
and be of similar length.
4. After submitting your report you should post at least 2 substantive responses to your classmates
that help further the discussion of Michelle's mental status, and/or mental status exams in
general.
Michelle appeared to be disheveled with layers of clothes and rollers in her hair. She struggled
to maintain appropriate eye contact, but she was oriented to time, place, and person. Her
speech normal however, she stuttered at times. Michelle seemed anxious and fumbled with her
scarf throughout the interview. She cooperated with Kiana and discussed how she recently
moved but has not been doing well because she does not have her medications.
Michelle stated she was encouraged to come to Wildwood by her sister in which she resides
with. She stated she recently moved from Kansas to move with her sister and rode a bus 3 days
to get there. She stated she was picked on, on her way to her sisters, and she has not been
doing well due to her not having her medication. Michelle said since she has not had access to
her medication, she is hearing voices that tell her she is not wanted, she should’ve stayed in
Kansas, and she is a bad person.
