Political Aspects in the Film "Ada Apa dengan Cinta 1 and 2"
Film is a communication medium that is closely related to life and social society. Films
can be categorized as a reflection of a reality that does not exist changes such as
documentaries and representations of the community environment.Apart from being part of
the communication media,Film can be a media tool for politics or represent political aspects
that are audio-visual in nature. The political aspects displayed in a film are used as a means of
conveying messages and information to the public regarding political values that coexist with
society through dialogue, scenes, characters, or semiotic elements displayed in the film.
The film "What's Up with Love" is a film with a romance genre that tells the story of
Cinta and Rangga's romantic journey. The film has two seasons, “What's Up with Love” the
first season tells the story of Cinta and Rangga when they were still in high school. Both of
them like literary works, especially poetry. That's what poetry is all about bringing the two of
them closer together. Unfortunately, Rangga had to move to New York to accompany him His
father. Their love journey didn't end there. In the film “What's Up with Love” season two, the
romance they experienced did not anchor their story to a serious level. In 2006 Rangga
decided to end the relationship by letter. Trian has also proposed to love and is about to get
married. However, it seems that the universe does not approve of both of them. Cinta and
Rangga meet again at Yogyakarta in 2016. Rangga explained the reason why he disappeared
without a word and decided to end his relationship with Cinta first. Love all day long
Listening to Rangga's story, he slowly wavered in his stance. Finally, Love realized that he
loves Rangga more than Trian.
This romance film, directed by Riri Riza and Rudi Soedjarwo, turns out to be insert
some political aspects into it. In the first season, the political aspects were shown at minute
56:30 - 57:25 which tells the story of the character Yusrizal (Father Rangga) who is a Civil
Servant (PNS) who doesn't get any money retired. Rangga said that in 1996 his father wrote a
thesis about rottenness from the government, so that his father was fired from his job and
considered communist by the government. 1996 was the New Order era which was the dark
history of the Indonesian nation, because at that time President Soeharto was a figure
anti-critical leaders and leftists became the government's biggest enemies.

At minute 57:44 57:52 Cinta told Yusrizal that now Indonesia has undergone reform,
so what Yusrizal experienced should not have happened becomes a problem. This was
answered by Yusrizal chuckling and saying “Reform what, Love?" In the next scene, the glass
in Yusrizal and Rangga's house breaks because throwing a bottle containing a cloth covered in
oil and lighting it on fire, which makes a wall and the curtains of their house caught fire. This
shows that even during the reform period they will still be terrorized by unknown thugs.

At minutes 25:49 – 27:04, shows a scene of a musical performance visited by Cinta and her friends atYogyakarta. Seen one rapper singing the Javanese song wearing a t-shirt that read "JOGJA ORA DIDOL” which means Jogja is not for sale. In October 2013 inYogyakarta there is action residents protestedYogyakarta. Artists who are members of the Empowered Citizens community wrote "JOGJA ORA DIDOL" using black paint on a nearby building at Beteng Wetan Corner, Yogyakarta. This is an act of protest against the government because of the large number of new hotel developments that damage the Yogyakarta environment, especially the problem of groundwater availability. Apart from that, Jogja is also filled with billboards and Advertising banners are illegal, so they become visual waste there. That makes an assumption that Jogja is like being sold by the government.
