BSN 2-B Movie Analysis
Pasensya na, Trabaho lang
There are people who do evil because of the need to live. There are people who still abide
by, fight, and ought for what is right according to the law. And there are people who feel like they
are God who can control those they think are below them. And there were those people in the
middle, being blinded or just turning blind eyes. Indeed, there are things going on that are far
beyond what someone like me could ever imagine. Am I really that blind to whats really
happening in my own land?
Moral courage in todays socio-economic and political context is really difficult to see. The
courage to initiate to act on the right even if it means that you need to go against all odds is seldom
found not just in the political aspect but also in our current society in general. Its always that
feeling that whenever I look around I felt the unkindness and unforgiving aura of a lot of people
as well as the silent but concealed agony of many due to fear of being oppressed or pulled into the
fight. And I cant deny that I am in between. Money, power, and greed are undeniably and
unfortunately reigning since time immemorial, it is indeed the root of all evil. In the political
context, I think I saw some politicians who have the moral courage to fight for the truth and rights.
But all these things that have been happening inside the government like corruption and such made
me doubt their intentions also. It doesn’t feel genuine anymore, I don’t want to generalize but all
of the past and current issues that involve the government made it hard for a lot of people to trust
them. It just appears like a façade, just like a compromise for them so that in the end theyll get
what they want. When youre starting out, you should sway like a bamboo. Then, when youre
at the top, you can be as stiff and as rigid as a flagpole, a politician advised his NBI agent son-
in-law in the movie entitled On the Job which was based on a true story.
A gunshot toward a persons head, and then screaming and shrill cries were heard. Jhonny
Tiu, a businessman was killed on the sidewalk. The movie left a mark I will never forget. What
sets this apart from all the action movies that Ive watched locally and internationally, is that it
was done in a very realistic way. The movie director Erik Matti is a genius for producing these
very timely and mind-blowing shots of events. Basically, the story is about two prisoners who are
also hired killers. Tatang, played by Joel Torre introduces a young thug named Daniel who is
played by Gerald Anderson to the gun-for-hire trade. We soon realize that both men are prisoners
who are allowed to leave jail whenever they are called for a job. When Tatang is summoned by
the warden and informed of his parole, he is forced to retire from his deadly trade and must ensure
that the immature Daniel is ready to take over. Sgt. Acosta played by Joey Marquez is a good cop
who is investigating a murder in his neighborhood. Ironically, his brutal honesty is also what has
impeded his career over the years. His investigation is soon put on hold when his chief of police
informs him that the case has been assigned to Atty. Francis Coronel Jr. played by Piolo Pascual -
a National Bureau of Investigation agent. When a certain witness appears who is also a friend of
Sgt. Acosta, his life becomes entangled with the lives of these hit men and cops, and he may be
the key to unraveling the truth in this tale of corruption, power, and greed.

BSN 2-B Movie Analysis

“Lahat ng toh’, trabaho lang Daniel. Trabaho lang”. That particular line from Tatang for some odd reason gave me the chills. It is one of his first pieces of advice to Daniel after knowing that when he exits the prison he will not be able to be a contract killer anymore. It feels cold and unforgiving, for me it is evil. But at some point, I perceived Tatang as a loving father who is willing to do everything for his family, and I also felt like he was kind of being pressured to produce an income despite him being in jail because of his daughter who is about to take her bar exam. That is why my heart broke for him when it seems like after everything that he gave and sacrificed, his so-called family especially his daughter just disrespected him and discarded him after knowing his actual job. I do understand that she might feel ashamed, especially since she is a soon-to-be-lawyer and guilty for all her father’s victims but it just feels so heartless and ungrateful, or maybe that was just me. Daniel, on the other hand, for me, is a boy in a man’s body. He was indeed a little bit cocky and careless with his actions. It frustrated me a little bit too much when just after killing the witness police friend of Sgt. Acosta and nearly caught by Francis immediately went to meet his ex-girlfriend and convinced her to be with him. He also wants to consider living with her inside the prison. Then, there are these characters who definitely exemplify what moral courage really is. Sgt. Acosta, despite being in service for 32 years and still not being promoted but still does his job as a protector of peace and a giver of justice. Atty. Francis, despite going against his own father- in-law and at some point his wife, still chose to do his job without second thoughts. I saw in him a brave soul that chooses to do what is right even against all odds, even in exchange of his own life. At this point, I have realized that I am indeed blinded. I see a lot of evil in the world, but what about those people who are trying and fighting to bring back the light? They are being blocked by the shadows of evil until all of their sacrifices will just pass and go unnoticed just like how Sgt. Acosta carried all his belongings and walked away from the police department like nothing happened. In the end, they’ll just give up because they realized that they are not superheroes. “On the Job” is not just an ordinary movie for me, it was an eye-opener of how messed up our justice system is, I’ve always thought that it needs fixing but not to the point that it will go next to impossible. The whole story was a roller coaster ride and the plot twist at the end was a sudden drop from the heights. But it was surprisingly great, especially for someone like me who is not very fond of gory and brutal scenes. It was a whole adventure.
