Why are natural killer cells considered to be part of the innate immune response? Shanice presents with a low quantity with a decreased level of activities of the natural killer cells. An innate immune response can reduce exposure to pathogens in the body by involving natural killers such as T-cells. (Saladin, 2021). Natural killers can hint at the spread of the infection. In addition, natural killers do not have antigen-specific receptions that are components of the immune response. (Nikzad et al., 2019) What types of cells do natural killer cells act against? The Natural Killer cells (NK) work to act against the aberrant cells that have been altered and can damage the body. Natural kills cells work against tumor cells as well as virus-infected cells. The NK cells are cytotoxic lymphocytes essential to the inmate’s immune system and can ultimately lead to innate lymphoid cells. Describe the process whereby natural killer cells kill other cells and the role of macrophages in the process. Unfortunately, the innate immune response is to prevent infection, but if this is not successful, the adaptive immune response will take over. Both main objectives are to remove the body of the pathogen. (Nikzad et al., 2019) Furthermore, both macrophage and NK cells play a role in preventing microbes. The Immunologist cautioned Shanice that she may be more susceptible to virally induced cancers. Why did the Immunologist state this? A lack of NK cells can lead to viral infections such as herpes simplex. Unfortunately, tumor activity continues to increase with the absence of NK cells, which ultimately results in fungal infection and malignancies. Overall Natural killer cells do consist of anti-tumor cytolytic activity. (Nikzad et al., 2019)
