● justification of why you have selected the source ● for what purpose the source will be used in the essay Peterson, Christopher. “Money and Happiness.” Psychology Today , Sussex Publishers, 6 June 2008, www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-good-life/200806/money-and-happiness. In this short article, Christopher Peterson wants to explain the positive relationship between money and happiness. The author states that this relationship is not a straight line because when income increases, its added contribution to life satisfaction becomes smaller. He also notes that there are significant reasons, psychological and moral, to be happy but money is also an important factor. He supported his idea by quoting Mae West. West says that "I've been rich, and I've been poor; believe me, rich is better." Moreover, like positive psychologists, according to Peterson, pleasures and comforts are different things. He distinguished these two values as pleasures are short term, we adapt to them, on the contrary, comforts are in our consciousness until they disappear. Based on all of these we can say that the message he actually wants to give is that if our money makes us comfortable, money can buy happiness. When we look author’s academic career and his expertise in this field (Christopher Peterson was at the University of Michigan, where he was professor of psychology and organizational studies and former director of clinical training.) his ideas are very valuable, reliable and logical. He clearly explains how money affect our happiness by mentioning life satisfaction, pleasure and comfort. Also, the fact that he makes use of various important psychological findings (studies by Elizabeth W. Dunn, John O'Doherty …) and summarizes them very well while writing this article shows that this resource is very useful. Therefore, I am planning to use this source in my first body paragraph to support my topic sentence and show that comfort makes us feel happier.
