TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. PRE-ACTIVITY

 Preliminaries Prayer May I request everyone, to please stand for a prayer. (The students will pray together with

Constantino, kindly lead the prayer. teacher.) Greetings Good afternoon, class. Before you take your seats, please pick up a piece of paper under your chair. Okay, you may now take your seats. How are you today? That’s good to hear. Before we begin our lesson for today, let me introduce myself first. My name is Ma’am Stephany and I will be your science teacher for today. Are you ready and excited to learn a new topic for today, class? Good afternoon, Ma’am. (Students will pick up pieces of paper under their chair.) We are fine, Ma’am. Yes, Ma’am. Checking of Attendance Alright! But before that, let us check your attendance first. May I know who are absent for today? Okay, say present if I call your name. (The learners will mention the names of their classmates who are not present.) (Students will say present if I call their name.) Classroom Rules Before we start our lesson for today, please avoid unnecessary noise, be attentive, and raise your hand if you want to answer or if you have concerns. Is that clear, class? Very good! Yes, Ma’am. B. REVIEW What was our lesson last meeting? Anyone from the class? Very good! We made use of the latitude and longitude in locating places on Earth. So now, what is the relationship between the latitude of a place and the climate it experiences? Anyone? Last meeting, we have discussed about the latitude and longitude in locating places on Earth. The closer the latitude is to the equator,

Very good! And where do you think these resources come from? Yes, and that is our topic for today. The Earth’s Resources and ways on how to sustain Earth’s resources. From different Earth resources. D. PRESENTATION So, class, before we start our lesson for today let us first know what we are achieving for, for today’s lesson. So kindly read our Specific Learning Objectives. At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

  1. Explain ways on how to sustain Earth’s resources;
  2. Appreciate the importance of sustaining the concept of Earth’s resources to real life situation; and
  3. Make a poster on your own ways of using Earth’s resources sustainably. Thank you. (Students are reading the Specific Learning Objectives.) At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
    1. Explain ways on how to sustain Earth’s resources;
    2. Appreciate the importance of sustaining the concept of Earth’s resources to real life situation; and
    3. Make a poster on your own ways of using Earth’s resources sustainably. **E. ACTIVITY PROPER
  4. Pre-Activity**  Groupings To further understand our lesson for today, let us do an activity. Before we proceed for our discussion this afternoon, first, I will be dividing the class into three groups. This will be group 1, group 2, and group 3. Every group will select a leader and a secretary. Each group will be given 10 minutes to finish. After you finish your work, you will be given 3 minutes to discuss your task. Group 1: Classify the following materials as (RNR) renewable natural resource and (NRNR) non- renewable natural resource.

Group 2: Write a short sentence explaining the pictures on the proper ways of sustaining Earth’s resources. Group 3: Make a poster on your own ways of using Earth’s resources sustainably. (See attached sheet on group activity.)  Distribution of activity sheets I have here a brown envelope contain materials in doing your activity. Group leader, please get your materials. (Leaders get their material.)  Standard Operating Procedures in doing group activity Before we do that, let us recall the guidelines in doing an activity. What is the first step? What else? That’s right. What else? Exactly. Be cooperative. Show respect to your groupmates. Don’t disturb other groups. Follow directions correctly.

2. Activity ProperGroup Activity Use electronic timer inserted in the PowerPoint presentation. Okay, your time starts now! Group 1 Renewable or Non-Renewable! Direction: Classify the following materials as ( RNR ) renewable natural resource and ( NRNR ) non- renewable natural resource. Write your answer before the number.

Sun

Silver and gold coins

Water (The learners perform their activity.)

Group Reporting during student’s group activity, correct procedural errors and take note of any misconceptions in content.  Each group will be given 1 minute to present their activity.  Times up! Please come in front and present your work group 1. Group 1 Renewable or Non-Renewable! Direction: Classify the following materials as (RNR) renewable natural resource and (NRNR) non- renewable natural resource. Write your answer before the number. ______ 1. Sun ______ 2. Silver and gold coins ______ 3. Water ______ 4. Plants ______ 5. Coal Excellent work! Give 5 claps to Group 1. And now, let’s proceed to Group 2. (Group 1 representative/s start presenting their work.) (Students possible answer.) Group 1 Renewable or Non-Renewable! RNR 1. Sun NRNR 2. Silver and gold coins RNR 3. Water RNR 4. Plants NRNR 5. Coal (Students claps 5 times.) (Group 2 representative/s starts presenting their work.) (Students possible answer.) Group 2

Group 2 Good Deeds! Direction: Write a short sentence explaining the pictures on the proper ways of sustaining Earth’s resources.

  1. ______________.
    1. ______________.
      1. _____________.
        1. _____________. 5.. Great job, Group 2! Let’s give them 5 claps. Let’s proceed to Group 3. The last group. Group 3 Conserve Earth’s Resources! Direction: Make a poster on your own ways of using Earth’s resources sustainably. (See attached sheet on group activity.) Brilliant! Give 5 claps to group 3. Good Deeds!
  2. Apply the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) to maintain Earth’s resources.
  3. Use water properly.
  4. Proper segregation of waste.
  5. Use Eco-friendly materials instead of made of plastic.
  6. Energy Conservation. (Students claps 5 times.) (Group 3 representative/s start presenting their work.) (Students possible poster.) Group 3 Conserve Earth’s Resources! (Students clap 5 times.)

renewable and include metals (e.g. iron, copper, and aluminum), and non-metals (e.g. salt, gypsum, clay, sand, phosphates.) They constitute the vital raw materials for many basic industries and are a major resource for development. Is it clear, class? Okay, our Earth’s natural resources can be classified into two, renewable and non-renewable. Based again on your presentation,

  1. In what way does renewable resource different from non- renewable resource? Very good! And lastly, why is it important to know the proper ways on how to sustain Earth’s resources? You did a great job! Yes, Ma’am. Renewable resources can be regenerated at the same rate or even faster as they are being used. Example of renewable resources are sunlight, water, air, biomass, and geothermal are renewable resources because they cannot be used up. They are replenished over relatively short periods of time by natural processes. While fossil fuels were formed within the Earth from dead plants and animals over millions of years. Coil, oil, and natural gas are fossil fuels. They are the major types of non-renewable resources because once they are used up, they cannot be replaced. This is due to the long time it takes for them to be replenished. We need to conserve natural resources because these natural resources are the sources of our daily needs and if these resources are abused and harmed, we will have short quantity of sources for food and living. G. ABSTRACTION As a whole, is it necessary to sustain Earth’s resources? Why? (Students possible answer.) Yes, all resources used by humans, including fuels, metals, and building materials, come from Earth. Many of these resources are not in endless supply. It has taken many thousands and millions of years to develop and accumulate these resources.

What are the most natural important resources for life? Good job! To conserve natural resources is to protect or use them wisely without wasting them or using them up completely. Conserving natural resources can make them last and be available for future generations. This is what sustainability of natural resources means. Each one of us should think about how to make things sustainable. The most important natural resources for life is the air we breathe. Without this, we cannot exist. H. APPLICATION Now, what learning area you can apply to our lesson for today? Yes. So, as a student of Mount Carmel College, in what way you can show appreciation towards the importance of sustaining the concept of Earth’s resources to real life situation? Very good! So, do you have any questions or clarifications? In Araling Panlipunan because it tackles “likas na yaman”. As a student of Mount Carmel College, I can show my appreciation towards the importance of sustaining the concept of Earth’s resources to real life situation by respecting laws governing the seas and use of natural resources. None, Ma’am. V. EVALUATION Okay, since there are no questions lets have a short quiz. Get ¼ sheet of paper and answer the following. Test 1 Direction: Yes or No: Write Yes if the statement is true, and No if it is incorrect. Write your answer before the number. ____ 1. Renewable resources can be regenerated at the same rate or even faster as they are being used. ____ 2. Non-renewable resources must be conserved for future use because there is no reasonable way

anywhere else. c. This is a practice to keep the area free from any mess before leaving. d. Just leave everything on the area and let the utility men clean up the mess.

  1. Which of the following statement explains why sunlight, water, air, biomass, and geothermal are examples of renewable resources? a. They can be replaced by nature. b. They cannot be replaced by nature. c. They need to be conserved for future use. d. This is due to the long time it takes for them to be replenished.
  2. Which of the following does NOT show the proper way of conserving natural resources? a. Illegal logging b. Proper waste disposal c. Use if 3r’s d. Using of organic fertilizer. After 3 minutes. Let’s check. Exchange your paper with your seatmate. Test 1 Direction: Yes or No: Write Yes if the statement is true, and No if it is incorrect. Write your answer before the number. **1. Yes
  3. Yes
