Laboratory FEED PROCESSING MACHINERY I. OBJECTIVES A. To identify the parts of Feed Processing Machinery B. Able to explain the basic functions and mechanism of Feed Processing Machinery. II. INTRODUCTION Feed processing machinery encompasses a range of equipment used in the production of animal feed for livestock, poultry and aquaculture. These machines are essential in the feed manufacturing inductry to process raw materials into nutritious and balanced feed pellet or mash. A pelletizer machine is a crucial piece of equipment in feed processing for livestock, poultry and aquaculture. It converts feedstuff or raw materials into compressed pellets or feed granules. These pellets are easier to handle, store, transport and feed to animals compared to loose feed. III. The pelletizer machine works by compressing and shaping feedstuff or feed ingredients into pellets through a process called pelleting. The machine typically consist of a feeder, conditioner, pellet die, heater, rollers, cutters and motors. The feeder feeds the raw materials into the conditioner where steam, water or heat is added to soften the feed and improve quality. The conditioned feed is then forced through the pellet die by the rollers, which compress in into desired pellet size. Finally, the cutter trims the pellets to the required length. Pelletizing feed offers several advantages including improved feed efficiency, reduce wastage, better nutrient absorption and easier handling. Additionally, pelleted feed is less susceptible to contamination and spoilage compared to loose feed. Overall, the pelletizer machine or feed processing machinery plays a vital role in feed processing industry by producing high-quality feed pellets that meet the nutritional requirements of livestock, leading to improved animal health and productivity.
