Essay on Setting Goals for Success
What is goal and how does it arise? What are the processes through which goals
occur? Explain how goals guide our plans and behavior? What factors determine
whether a goal will succeed? What are the characteristics of the goal to be
effective? Explain your answers.
A goal is an imagined future or intended outcome that an individual or group of
individuals plans, commits to, and strives to achieve. A goal is an idea for the future or a
necessary discovery that a person or group of people surrounds, plans, and dedicates
themselves to achieving. People make an effort to accomplish goals in a constrained
amount of time by setting a deadline.
When people want to change, usually for the betterment of their lives, goals occur. It
arises under the influence of our needs and values, which also activate and shape our
behavior. Goals may be short-term or long-term. The amount of time required to
complete them is the primary difference. Long-term goals are those that are completed
over an extended period of time, such as owning a two-story home or finishing a
four-year bachelor's degree with latin honors. Short-term goals, on the other hand, are
those that are anticipated to be completed in a notably short amount of time, such as
resolving to get up early for a class.
Setting goals can help us achieve success and well-being. The key to success is
motivation and having a clear roadmap for the future. People are happier and can
accomplish more when they have goals to guide them. Reaching a goal releases
dopamine, a neurotransmitter linked to positive feelings. Dopamine creates a neural
circuit that excites a person to take on new challenges in return.
Goal success is influenced by a number of factors, including mindset and
self-efficacy. Self-efficacy involves evaluating one's own abilities because it is a major
factor in people's thoughts and actions. On the other hand, mindset determines whether
or not someone will even want to set goals because not everyone has a growth
mindset, which is driven by the desire for personal growth and development. Instead,
some people have a fixed mindset, which holds that their characteristics are fixed and
cannot be changed. Additionally, there are five important characteristics for a goal to be
effective. First, it should be specific so we won't be confused and swayed, measurable,
attainable and relevant because we should not waste our time on something that is
impossible and irrelevant. Lastly, time-bound because we shouldn't just focus on one
thing in our lifetime. We are more than what we think we are capable of and we can
achieve more.
