1. Buy viewing your area environment, list five important environmental issues in your area.
Water pollution
Air pollution
Lack of waste management
Deforestation
Mining
What kinds of actions might you take to improve your local situation?
Start programs to educate the people about the proper way of segregating their trash.
Lessen and discourage the use of coal, burning trash, and burning dry branches from dead trees.
Start a community cleanup which would target cleaning different small bodies of water around
the principality.
Be involved and report any illegal mining that can cause further damage to nature.
2. Suppose a beautiful grove of trees near your house is scheduled to be cut down for a civic project such
as a swimming pool.
2.1 Would you support this?
No.
2.2 Why or why not?
Cutting this grove of trees may affect it negatively as trees can prevent flooding which is a big
problem in our country. It can also be a home for animals and by cutting them, the animals
would be deprived of their natural habitat and in turn would disrupt the nature works.
2.3 Which of the environmentalist described in this moduler best describes your attitude?
I think that Dr. Wangari Maathai’s way of having the people informed, involved, and mobilized to
work together towards the goal of saving the environment is the best way to save the planet.

  1. Examine figure 1.16. Describe in your own words how increasing wealth affects the three kinds of pollution shown. Why do the trends differ? All the information in figure 1.16 is all interconnected. Increasing wealth quickly can cause the neglect of certain things which could in turn have consequences. In the quest to increase wealth, sanitation is the least priority for the people involved. The continuous upgrade of the machines humans use affects the environment and creates air pollution like machines run by coal and machines that produce carbon monoxide which is harmful to the environment. In summary, while the process of increasing wealth continues, the need for the machines to lessen the workload and increase efficiency increases, which means that their effect on the air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions increases, while sanitation, which is not considered a priority has decreased.
  2. Do you think indigenous people are important in preserving and protecting our environment?  Yes. As I would think that they would be more adept in protecting the environment given that they are given ample information and given support. Do they have unique knowledge about nature and inalienable rights to traditional territories?  I think that indigenous people know more about their land and is more adept on the proper way of taking care of what keeps them alive and safe. I also think that they have some sort of claim on the traditional territories that were taught and passed down to them by their ancestors.
