The ubiquity of the internet has transformed the way we access information, conduct transactions, and engage with various online services. However, this digital revolution has also highlighted the stark disparities in web accessibility, particularly for individuals with disabilities. Despite the progress made in web design and development, many websites still present significant barriers to those with diverse abilities. This research proposal aims to address this pressing issue by advocating for a user-centric approach to enhance web accessibility and improve the overall usability of websites for individuals with disabilities. Significance of the Problem: Web accessibility is a fundamental human right, as recognized by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). However, a substantial portion of the global population continues to face obstacles in accessing and interacting with online content. Individuals with disabilities encounter challenges ranging from visual impairments and hearing loss to motor disabilities and cognitive limitations. The current state of web accessibility falls short of meeting the diverse needs of this population, hindering their full participation in the digital realm. This research is significant for several reasons. Firstly, it addresses a critical societal concern by advocating for inclusivity and equal access to information and services for everyone. Secondly, as technology continues to advance, ensuring that websites are accessible to individuals with disabilities becomes increasingly vital. These challenges include but are not limited to navigational difficulties, content comprehension issues, and barriers posed by non-adaptive technologies. Understanding these challenges is crucial for tailoring solutions within the user-centric framework. Effectiveness of Existing Accessibility Guidelines Evaluations of the current effectiveness of web accessibility guidelines reveal shortcomings in addressing the practical needs of users with disabilities.
