Nephron Their function is to remove waste products from the blood and to aid in maintaining water and electrolyte balances. Urinary bladder Urine producing microscopic structure. Kidneys (^) Two slender tubes that receive the urine from the kidneys and carry it to the bladder. Glomerulus Muscular, hollow organ that temporarily holds the urine. Ureters (^) Tube through which the urine passes from the urinary bladder to the outside of the body. Renal pelvis Cluster of capillaries at the entrance of the nephron. Urethra Funnel-shaped reservoir that collects the urine and passes it to the ureter. Bowman’s capsule (^) The liquid produced by the kidneys to carry wastes from the body. Urine Double-walled, cup-shaped structure around the glomerulus of each nephron.
True False The ureter transports urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder. The entire responsibility for urine formation lies with the nephron. Urea is reabsorbed in the loop of Henle. Water, salt, sugar, and proteins are filtered out of the blood in the capillaries of the glomerulus. The urinary bladder is the only unpaired organ of the urinary system. Tubular secretion removes wastes from the blood not removed during glomerular filtration. Bowman's capsule envelops the glomerulus.
