ECON205 Assignment 2
1. Write down the static stage game you are playing. Find its Nash Equilibrium (or equilibria).
cooperate
cheat
cooperate
+2, +2
-1, +3
cheat
+3, -1
0, 0
2. How is this game similar to the Prisoners Dilemma?
Firstly, both games are relying on trust between the opponents and in both of the games
neither player knows when the last round is.
3. The setting considers five generic player types, named (1) copycat, (2) grudger, (3) always
cheat, (4) always cooperate, and (5) detective. Read the descriptions of these strategies. Are
any of them similar to the way you have played the game?
My strategy at the very beginning was similar to the grudger, but after I have realized that I
should be more careful I began with cheat then, if the opponent cooperated, I tried to mutually
cooperate for a win-win situation acting similar to copycat.
4. The game asks you to bet on one of these players. Which one have you picked?
I have picked Copycat.
5. How did your strategy do against others in the repeated game? How did it do in the
tournament? Is there a particular situation in which it has been successful? Is there a particular
situation in which it has failed? Would you keep it or change it according to the game
outcomes you have observed?
I think it did well both in the repeated game and the tournament. My strategy showed the
same success rate in the situations against grudger, alwayscooperate and detective but failed
at the beginning against always cheat. I would definitely keep it.
6. The game will add three new characters: (6) Copykitten, (7) Simpleton, and (8) Random.
Which one did you pick among these? How did it do against others?
I picked Simpleton first and then Copykitten. Overall Simpleton did well against half Always
Cooperate and Copykitten did well against the situation where it was half Always Cheat. They
were useful in cases of miscommunication.
