The Distributive Property is a mathematical concept that allows us to distribute a number outside of parentheses to each number inside the parentheses, then add the results together. This property can be an alternative to the Order of Operations for certain problems but is necessary for others. In this document, we explore the definition of the Distributive Property, examples using numbers and algebra, and its importance in mathematics.

“You can multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and adding the products”
Instead of adding numbers inside parenthesis and then multiplying by the number outside of the parenthesis… I can multiply the number outside of the parenthesis by each of the numbers inside the parenthesis and then add the result together.

Solve the following problems using the Distributive Property.
3 (11+12) = 33 + 36 = 69 (2 + 14) (7) = 14 + 98 = 112 (7 – 9 + 8) (2) = 14 - 18 + 16 = 12 (m + n) n = n 2
