Introduction Post
Hello everyone! My name is Jessica and I am completing this online masters from Toronto
Ontario! I currently work as an instructor therapist in a high school and I have been in the field
for about 3 years now. I started my masters in the fall of 2022 and I am now 5 courses away
from finishing my masters and I am projected to be done by the end of the summer semester.
When I am not studying or working I really enjoy reading a good book, going for hikes, or
playing volleyball with some friends. I am also a proud dog mom of a 7 year old American bull
dog who also takes up a lot of my time with walks and cuddles. I am looking forward to
“meeting” everyone over the course of this semester!
Discussion Post 1
After finishing this week’s reading and reviewing the PowerPoint I believe that this quote makes
me feel both anxious about the uncertainty of conducting research but also a bit of excitement.
When I reflect about what makes me anxious I believe it’s the process of organizing and
ensuring that all the correct steps are taken before starting an action research. Along with the
overwhelming process of the action research what makes me anxious is the uncertainty if my
action research is “worth” the time. But a point that changed my perspective of this uncertainty
can be found in the PowerPoint where it highlights that the process of an action research can
occur without negative impact. Where I feel excitement is trying something that may potentially
have a positive impact within the community. The excitement of potentially completing a action
research that can teach me and benefit others is an exciting thought.
When thinking about my own knowledge and comfort level with research on a scale of 1-10 I
am setting at a 1. I have experience reading research papers due to the nature of this Master’s
program along with the nature of my work but I have personally never conducted an action
research project. I am very comfortable reading the results of a research paper and
understanding the process of how the research was conducted when reading the paper itself
but as mentioned previously I do not have the experience of completing the process myself.
When thinking about my biggest strengths and challenges there are two things that come to
mind for both areas. When thinking about some challenges that I will face the first one that
comes to mind is considering all variables that may impact the experiment. I feel that this may
be difficult to consider all different variables that have the potential to impact the research at
hand especially for the first time conducting an action research project. A second challenge that
I can foresee would be developing a good research question. Although this may seem simple I
believe I would have a hard time finding a research question that is not to over complicated
once again especially for the first action research project. When thinking about some strengths
that I can bring when completing an action research I believe that I will do a good job following
a timeline schedule. I enjoy making schedules and sticking to them therefore I believe that

When thinking about some strengths that I can bring when completing an action research I believe that I will do a good job following a timeline schedule. I enjoy making schedules and sticking to them therefore I believe that

ensuring my research is following a certain timeline will be a strength that I will bring into the project. I believe another strength that I can display is putting the plan in action once everything is settled and organized. I believe once the plan is finalized I would be able to execute the plan and be able to trouble shoot any problems that arise during the process. Discussion post # 2 This was difficult to narrow down what I wanted to do my research paper on! I have settled with: How has the pandemic impacted classrooms? Please let me know if this is to broad! Or if I should phrase the research question differently! Discussion Post # Throughout my time here at Slippery Rock I have used a variety of different databases to help complete my assignments. The first that I have used is JSTOR. I do not use this one as frequently as others but I do find that this database is a good starting point when I am just starting to sift through literature. EBSCOHOST is another database that I use, specifically to search for education source and also ERIC. These two databases I use when I am going more in depth in my research. Lastly Slippery Rock Library has a Catalog and Discovery page that is also a very good database that can be used during the start of any research project. This database it extremely helpful as it has a search filter option on the right side of the page that helps you narrow down your search. I have experience completing research project throughout my time here at Slippery Rock but also other educational institutions. Some tips that I find helpful when completing research is using the filter options that are typically available on the left side of the database website. I typically ensure that I am looking for journal articles that have been peer reviewed within the last ten years. These filter options help narrow down my search and helps eliminate any articles that will not fit the needs to my paper. Another trick that I have used in the past is the use of quotation marks within my search. If I am looking for an article that specifically discusses a certain topic I will put those words into the search engine bar with quotation marks for example “Special education and Covid-19”. This trick will allow the database to pull up all articles that specifically mentions this topic. This trick has helped me also narrow down the articles that I am looking for. I hope these tips and tricks help while completing the annotated bibliography!
