Wesleyan University-Philippines Maria Aurora, 3202 Aurora Senior High School CHAPTER I The Problem and It’s Setting Introduction According to Luther (2015) stated that many students are entering school without the basic values. Many teachers find it difficult to maintain discipline in classroom. It is difficult for them to use effective solutions to prevent the development of student discipline problems. The discipline problems become a big issue in every schools and among students. Discipline is one of the most areas for teachers to maintain for achieving timely educational goals. It is normally associated with command and control and is often taken as synonymous with punishment or reputations. Teachers may use harsh language, treat students to complete their work on time, criticize students which may lead to less participation or discipline problems among their students. According to Lauxche (2012), the best form of discipline focuses on positive aspects of discipline in class, reinforcing good behavior through rewards and involves learner decision- making about rewards and punishment. Therefore, it was necessary to examine the discipline of students. The focus of this study was to determine the Discipline Problems among Senior High School Students in Wesleyan University Philippines- Aurora.

Wesleyan University-Philippines Maria Aurora, 3202 Aurora Senior High School Researchers believes that this paper could contribute to the development of discipline of the student. Hence, it provided information pertinent on the prevailing discipline of the student and identified undesirable discipline in teaching learning process. It was also ascertained discipline solutions that were commonly adopted and to be turn to be effective means to change the student undesirable discipline. Scope and Delimitation of the Study The study is focused on Discipline Problems among Senior High School Students of Wesleyan University Philippines- Aurora in year 2017-2018. Definition of Terms Discipline. Refers to the activity to develop skill or pattern of behavior. Disciplining Solutions. Refers to the way used by teachers and parents to control undesirable discipline problems of student and to have a progress and bring to higher standard of discipline. Education. Refers to the process of educating and providing higher qualities of discipline of the students in the classroom. Problem. Refers to a difficulty in fixing a right manner that was seen to students, it is needed to be solved.

Refers to the students from grade 11 to grade 12 are existing with many strand from HUMSS, STEM, GAS, ABM strand who has been observed the discipline in the classroom by teachers and advisers. Solutions. Refers to the way of imposing proper discipline to the students in order to have a high standard of discipline. Wesleyan University- Philippines. Refers to the school in which educates students and basically provide developmental needs of high school students.
Wesleyan University-Philippines Maria Aurora, 3202 Aurora Senior High School involved in scientific progress demands ever more frequent application of competencies and knowledge from different field. The students in Africa has less teachers to observed them and teach them with proper discipline. Through the collaboration of the schools, teachers and states, the student discipline of Sri Lanca developed. According to Huang (2013) in his article “Students of Arab Emirates Discipline” stated that discipline viewed various aspects of interdisciplinary due to its nature. However, the student will progress in terms of discipline control through the help of parents, teachers, and their own selves. According to Watson (2014) in his article “Discipline Problems that observed among Students in Korea, Soul- Pyongyang” stated that there no school immune by the problems of students in terms of violating and increased the discipline problems. He suggested practical ways to increase a school resistance and promote discipline programs. Discipline practices should look at all relevant state school laws. Everyone in the school should be involves to develop the high standard discipline. According to Harshman (2015) in his article “Discipline Problems of the High School Students of Pakistan” stated that the discipline control is by addressing the issue of control and for more stringent policies that further restrict the choices of the students in school setting.

In recent years, numerous practices have merged to deal with the discipline problems of Pakistan High School. Foreign Studies Elbla (2011) studied the issue of “Discipline Problems of Sudan High School”. The finding revealed that the teacher used punitive strategies as a result of negative to students. They were aware of the fact that punishment has negative impact on their student’s discipline and personality. It increased the problems and issues of discipline when the teachers used harsh way and it lessen the students to participate in classroom. Mitchell (2013) studied the “Students Discipline in America”. The discipline supports with the student ratings of school climate, in order to improve fairness order and discipline, students, teachers and relationship and academic motivation. The result showed that the use of exclusionary discipline strategies was inversely related to order and discipline in class, while greater use of classroom based discipline support related to higher order and character, fairness and students teacher relationship. It has been found that the language teacher’s motivational practice is directly linked to increased levels of students, motivated learning discipline and motivational state.

According to Rosander (2009) in his article "The Students Discipline" there are distinctions of intentionally and consciousness in academic dishonesty acts that range on the continued from concious and deliberate. The student gained knowledge through education in manner and conduct. Hence, the students observed to be in positive discipline. According to Olibo (2011) in his article "Discipline Problems in Bulacan National High School" stated that every student undergo discipline programs in order to build a proper manner and behavior of students. Teachers imposed rules and regulation and when the student violated this, teachers must give the punishment and this punishment helps students to become careful in doing violent actions. According to Lewis (2014) in his article "Discipline of the Students of Saint Joseph School" stated that the extent to which students of different nationalities perceive to their teacher's discipline strategies to be key players in forming their students towards in the school. Regardless of their nationality, all students perceive punitive discipline strategies to be related to distraction from school works and shaping their feeling towards their teacher’s ignorant deception.

Teacher’s motivational practice is directly linked to increased levels of student motivated learning discipline and their motivational school. It is taken to be more effective in the progress of University. According to Carless (2010) in his article "Discipline among the Students of San Manuel, Pangasinan" studied that the students are no proper discipline, thus the teachers are not willing to shift their methods that create classroom management and discipline problems always increases. Through the help of the program "Go! Enhance Discipline" students and school increased the standard of didiscipline. The student is always made a way to enhance and maintain the discipline inside and out of the campus. According to Brew (2013) in his article "The Discipline Problems among Students of Christian School", student in mainstream education have under scored the importance of management and discipline dimensions in the description of good teachers and their role in encouraging students. The good relationship within teacher and students can help to prevent a better and positive discipline.

This is also included the research design, subject’s data gathering, measurement and data analysis. Research Method The researcher used the descriptive method. The method is appropriate to this study described the condition of Discipline Problem of Senior High School Students in Wesleyan University- Philippines Aurora. It is quantitative approached that focus on obtaining numerical findings. Through questionnaire technique where used in the study. Approximately 231 Senior High School Students from different strand are randomly chosen by the researchers. The form of questionnaire shared personal information on their age, gender, and academic strand. Sample/Respondents and Sampling Procedure. This study elaborated the discipline problems and the respondents of the study were the Senior High School Students of Wesleyan University-Philippines who currently enrolled during the school year 2017-2018. The main goal of this study is to find out the actions and discipline of every student that they are showing inside the classroom. The researchers believed that most of them are interested in this study which is about discipline that they are so familiar on it. Data Gathering Tool and Procedure

First and foremost, the researchers acquaint their purposed on conducting the research before distributing the questionnaires provided by the researchers. Each questions derived a different instruction that is well defined to be able to understand it fully without stumbling block. It is listed and evaluated carefully by the researchers. The researcher sought permission of the principal, the students, and the teachers before administering the questionnaire. Through the help of the adviser, the questionnaire was retrieved from the respondents and the necessary data, as well as the documents was gathered. The researchers didn’t force anyone and the students participated with whole heart. Also, the researchers didn’t include private information and data about the identity of the respondents so that their private matters will be secured. The table below showed the distribution of responses on the profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex and their senior high strand. Demographic Profile of the respondents: Table 1. Total: 231 Total: 100% In terms of age, 4 (1.73%) respondents had the age of 15, 47 (20.35%) respondents had the age of 16, 98 (42.42%) belonged under the age of 17 and 80 (34.63%) lies in the age of 18. And 19 are 2 (0.86). There are 113 (48.91%) male respondents and 118 (51.08%) female respondents. Through the use of Slovin’s Formula, the researchers accumulated 39

Said that, “female was found to have 5 to 20% more self- control than adolescent boys, explaining in part why they do better than boys in school. In this study, the women had a higher % than the men. The researchers accumulated 39 (17%) STEM respondents, 46 (20%) respondents from HUMSS, 45 (19%) respondents from ABM and lastly, 101 (44%) respondents from GAS with a total of 231 respondents.
