Mini PROJECT 1 - Coin Counting
Project Description:
Get an image of several Turkish coins (i.e., an image including coins whose values
are 10 krs, 25 krs, 50 krs, 1 TL) using a camera. Your image must satisfy the
following conditions:
The background should be uniform. (e.g. like a wall or a desktop)
The photo should be taken by a camera looking downward at right angle
without flash.
Coins should not touch each other.
The image should contain at least 3-coin from each coin type.
DO NOT USE “regionprops” function.
An example of image satisfying these properties can be found in Figure 1.
Note: This is a sample image. You are not allowed to use this image in your project.

Project Requirements:
Determine how many coins exist in your image.
Propose an approach to classify coins based on their coin types (values).
Tell us how much money you have got.
DO NOT USE “regionprops” function.
Each group (max: 3 students) is supposed to submit one report using moodle
course page as the form of defined below until given deadline.

Project Description:

 Do not copy word for word from the any source. This is plagiarism and would result in a zero mark.  Reports will be graded largely on their ability to clearly communicate results and important conclusions. Check your report for spelling and grammar errors.

Each report should include the following:

1. Title page The title page should clearly display; the name of the project, the course number and name, names of the members of your lab. group. 2. Introduction The introduction defines the subject of the report. It must outline the background and purpose of the experiment. 3. Materials and Methods As the name implies, the materials and methods used in the project should be reported in this section. Describe briefly what you did in the project step by step, why you did it, what you have found and what have you learned from it. 4. Results This section may consist of quantitative and/or qualitative observations of the experiment. 5. Discussion & Conclusion Give a one paragraph discussion of the scientific conclusions you drew from the project. What did you learn?
