EARLY CHILDHOOD PERIOD
Age: 3-6 yrs old
Main features:
-Play (pretend plays)
-Superego develops
*sense of morality
-preschool and kindergarten
-Better motor skills and motor coordination
-Parenting styles
-gender typing; (start to understand male and female roles given by society)
-preoperational stage
-initiative vs guilt (goals)
-self-esteem/self concept/self definition
-Helping behavior and aggression
-Being readied to read and write
-fearful kids (unrealistic)- may outgrow it as they distinguish better bet. Reality and fantasy.
*Young children’s fears stem largely from their intense fantasy life
and their tendency to confuse appearance with reality
Milestone: theory of mind

*Increase bone and muscular growth-->perform better motor movements
*Hand preference dev (left or right)
*Bye babyish body ---> little adult like body (gets taller)

*Brain growth--> adult size; specifically frontal lobe devs.

*improvement in gross and fine motor skills
*Improv. Eye-hand coordination (fine motor skills)
*Can perform more complex actions
SLEEPING PROBLEMS:
*commonly occurs
-Night terrors
-Nightmares
-Sleepwalking
-Enuresis (normal)
