bg1
A composite board with dimensions of 200mm x 200mm x 4mm will be produced from the matrix and
fiber materials given above, and 20% fiber will be used in the board. Matrix and fibers are brittle
materials. Accordingly, answer the following questions;
a) Check whether the fibers will carry loads.
b) Check whether efficiency can be obtained from the composite layer in terms of strength.
c) Calculate the major and minor poisson's ratios and the modulus of stiffness in the 1-2 plane.
d) Calculate the Modulus of Elasticity (E2) and the coefficient of Thermal Expansion perpendicular to
the fibers.
e) Calculate the stresses in the fiber and matrix when 200 kN tensile force is applied to the sheet in the
1 direction.
f) Calculate how much the temperature of the layer can be increased.
