Two Different Kinds

of Solidarity

“No man is an island”

  • (^) Social cohesion (a social relationships which has existence of trust, mutual obligations, and respect in communities) and integration come from the homogeneity (similar in the same kind of nature) of individuals.

1. Mechanical Solidarity

“No man is an island”

  • (^) It means that people need each other in an economic sense , so they hold together.
  • (^) We depend on one another to keep our economy functioning , and this binds us together even though we do not hold the same values or beliefs.

2. Organic Solidarity

“No man is an island”

Mechanical Solidarity is found in less structurally complex societies. Organic Solidarity emerges in industrialized society.

  • (^) It has with unanimity (agreement by all people involved) like-mindedness, accord, harmony, consensus/concurrence, cooperation, cohesion, fraternity, mutual support, formal accord.

  • (^) Example : Filipino solidarity during the EDSA Revolution is what gives us the credibility and power to make changes.
