PLANT LOCATION OF BHEL

BHEL HARIDWAR

  • (^) BHEL Haridwar is situated in Ranipur at the backup of Shivalik Hills, near about 10 km east towards haridwar in Uttrakhand. It is basically divided into two plants.
  • (^) My area of training was Steel Melting Shop in CFFP plant.

CENTRAL FOUNDRY FORGE

PLANT

  • (^) Central Foundry Forge Plant commonly said as CFFP.
  • (^) It was setup in 1976 to manufacture highly sophisticated steel castings and forgings for fulfilling requirements in all BHEL units.
  • (^) The initial design was to manufacture casting and forgings for 210 MW Russian design thermal sets.
  • (^) CFFP has one of the heavies forge machines in India.

ABOUT SMS

  • (^) In April 1976 Steel Melting Shop was the first shop to go on stream of melting. The first melt was taken from electric arc furnace of 10 T.
  • (^) Now steel melting shop of BHEL Haridwar has 3 EAF (Electric Arc Furnace) of different tonnage capacity.  (^) 10 T

  • (^) Today with its current facilities SMS is capable of making steel ingots of various sizes and weight.

CHARGE PREPARATION

  • (^) The weight of charge is 1.14 times the liquid metal requirement.
  • (^) The charge consist of –

 (^) Heavy return scrap= 34%

 (^) Universal scrap= 60%

 (^) Graphite powder or broken electrode pieces= 6.4- 6.7%

FURNACE PREPARATION

  • (^) Scrap of required grade is melted in direct EAF with basic melting practices.
  • (^) Furnace lining consists of magnesite bricks.
  • (^) Roof ring of furnace tightly fitted with super duty alumina brick.

POURING
