Pain and Wound Case Study
Mr. Ashen is a 55 yr. old male with Bowel Cancer, metastases to
liver and skin. He lives with his wife and two children. Mr.
Ashen does not have much verbal communication and is on
complete bedrest with his advancing disease. The physician has
recently increased the dose of his pain medication but the pain
is still unmanaged. You are the nurse visiting him for pain and
symptom management/ palliative care.
Medical History- NKA
Anxiety
Poor sleep pattern and appetite
Smoker for 15 years- quit 2 months ago
Medications
Fentanyl patch 100 mcg q 72 hours
Dilaudid 5mg sc q 4 hours prn
Acetaminophen 325 mg po q 6 hours
Lactulose 15 mls po bid
Ducolax 5mg po bid
Stemetil 10 mg po/sc q 4hours prn
Domperidone 10 mg pot id
Ciprofloxacin 500 mg po bid
Ativan 1mg sl q 6 hours prn
Flagyl powder topical daily
