Writer Dingdong Novenario's jukebox musical "Ang Huling El Bimbo"
includes hits from the legendary Filipino band Eraserheads from the 1990s. The
Newport Performing Arts Theatre in Pasay had the musical's world debut on July
20, 2018. The musical was choreographed by Dexter Santos and directed by
Myke Salomon, who also served as musical director. Under the direction of
Rodel Colmenar, the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra performed live with the
accompaniment of a band. Gino Gonzales designed the set, and Monino Duque
handled the lighting.
"Ang Huling El Bimbo" is a compelling musical that masterfully combines
an emotional and compelling plot with the classic songs of Eraserheads. The
cast gives excellent performances that give their characters nuance and heart.
The dancing and musical direction are excellent, adding to the audience's entire
experience. It's a really unforgettable theatrical experience since the themes of
friendship, love, loss, and redemption are portrayed with honesty and resonance.
