I. Objectives At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to: Identify the major parts of a plant: root, stem, leaves, and flower. Match the functions of each plant part using group observation and discussion. Appreciate the importance of plants in human life and the environment. II. Subject Matter Topic: Parts of a Plant and Their Functions References: Science Learner’s Module Grade 4, Department of Education Teacher’s Guide in Science 3, Quarter 1, Week 3 Materials: Picture of plant specimen, flashcards (with labels: root, stem, leaves, flower), chart showing labeled plant parts, crayons, paper, and pencils, printed worksheets for assessment III. PROCEDURE A. AWARENESS Before we start our day, let us ask for guidance first to our almighty God, everyone let’s pray "Let us bow our heads and pray. Lord, thank You for this new day. Help us to learn well today and grow in knowledge. Amen." Good morning, class! Are you all ready for a fresh start? Very good, so now please check your seatmates if they’re present or not, so I’ll know if anyone is absent today, okay? So now that everyone is here please pass in front your
assignments. Are you ready to learn something new today? Very good but before that what have you learned in our previous discussion? Correct! We learned about Living and Non-living things. Can you give one example of each? Correct living things like dogs and cats then rocks and dirts for non-living things. Motivation (Teacher shows a wilted plant beside a healthy one.) Okay class are plants living things? Correct they are indeed living things because they share key characteristics of a living things. Now look at these two plants. What can you say about the picture? Correct, one is healthy while the other is not healthy. Why do you think one is healthy and the other is not, what does the first plant have that the other one lacks? Very good, The one is healthy because it’s taken care of having enough sunlight, water, and cultivation that the other one doesn’t have. So today we are going to discuss about? Correct, we are going to discuss about plants, specifically their parts and functions. B. ACTIVITY Do you want to play? Okay good so I’ll divide the class into 4 groups. Each group is given a printed diagram of a plant and flashcards, a piece of paper and one crayon for each group. You’ll do these two tasks: First: Using flashcards, you and your group mates label the parts of the plant: root, stem, leaves, flower. Second: Using paper and a crayon, each group draws their favorite plant and labels the parts of it.
Flower – helps in plant reproduction (makes seeds or fruits) Class do you know that plants aside from their natural benefits, plants are also a stress relievers, plants brings us happiness specially if we’re the one taking care of it, we can see its progress, growing day by day and seeing its lovely flowers bloom, starting from the first day up to the day it bear its flowers. Growing plants gives us a sense of fullfiment. E. APPLICATION (Pupils complete a worksheet where they match plant parts to functions.) IV. ASSESSMENT Written Quiz (5 items):
